The standard must be known before it can be met.
Technique, terminology, and the pursuit of the perfect park.
Reference Technique
The standard procedure.
1. Signal before slowing. The turn signal is a declaration, not a formality.
2. Position parallel, bumpers aligned. Approximately 2–3 feet from the lead vehicle. This is your reference point.
3. Reverse slowly, wheel toward curb. When your front clears the lead vehicle's rear, begin straightening.
4. At 45°, turn the wheel away from the curb. Continue reversing until parallel and within 12 inches of the curb.
5. Straighten. Stop. Apply the brake. The maneuver is complete. The record is set.
